The rink reopened this morning, still smelling faintly of fresh ice and pine garlands, and I couldn’t resist being one of the first to test it. Cats Hollow always feels a little enchanted in winter, but the market lights and soft music make the whole place feel like a tiny snow globe someone gently shook awake.
I stepped onto the ice in my new outfit, warm enough to brave the breeze, light enough to move the way skating asks you to. One push, then another, and the world began to glide with me. The cold caught on my eyelashes, laughter drifted from a group near the carousel, and everything felt bright in that uncomplicated, early-season way.
